Open-source parts
Last updated 23 October 2026
FastHaul stands on the work of many open-source projects. Thank you to everyone who builds them. Each part is used as it is published, under its own licence, linked below.
The download engine
- yt-dlp, The Unlicense (public domain). Reads a link and downloads it. On Windows FastHaul downloads it on first start from its official releases; on Android it is built into the app.
- yt-dlp-ejs, The Unlicense, with parts under the MIT and ISC licences (meriyah, astring). Scripts that yt-dlp runs for some sites.
- FFmpeg, GNU LGPL 2.1 or later. Joins, converts and compresses files on Windows (downloads and Studio). FastHaul downloads the unchanged LGPL shared build from BtbN's FFmpeg-Builds on first start and runs it as a separate program; FFmpeg's source code is at ffmpeg.org and the build's scripts at that page.
- Deno, MIT. Runs the scripts some sites need, on Windows.
- Python, PSF License, through Chaquopy, MIT. Runs yt-dlp inside the Android app, with certifi (Mozilla Public License 2.0, unchanged) and Brotli (MIT).
The app
- Tauri and its plugins, MIT or Apache 2.0: the Windows app.
- Capacitor, MIT: the Android app.
- React, React Router, Zustand, Zod, TanStack Query and Virtual, i18next and Tailwind CSS, MIT; Drizzle ORM and Material Color Utilities, Apache 2.0; Lucide icons, ISC: the screens.
- AndroidX and Media3 (Transformer, Effect, Session), Apache 2.0: Studio on phones, playback controls and the small video window.
- SQLite, public domain, through AndroidX SQLite (Apache 2.0) and rusqlite (MIT): the Library's database.
- ed25519-dalek (BSD 3-Clause) and EdDSA-Java (CC0): checking the signed app status.
- On Windows also ureq, zip, sha2, hmac, base64, serde, rfd and webview2-com, MIT or Apache 2.0, and the libraries they use under the same kinds of licences.
Fonts and icons
- Rubik, IBM Plex Sans, IBM Plex Sans Arabic and Readex Pro, SIL Open Font License 1.1. This website uses Rubik; its licence is here.
- The GitHub mark beside the downloads, from GitHub's Octicons, MIT. GitHub is a trademark of GitHub, Inc.
